History
College Foundation
The Presentation Sisters founded St Mary's College for Girls in 1886 and the College continued its development when the Marist Brothers opened St Joseph's High School for Boys in 1911. The two schools formally amalgamated to form Trinity Catholic College Lismore in 1985.
FOUNDATION DAY
The Foundation Day of the College is held on the Feast of the Assumption, 15th August. This day commemorates the commencement of the College and of Catholic Secondary Education in Lismore in 1886.
The College Motto, Banner and Colours
HISTORY
At the end of 1984 the banners of St Joseph's and St Mary's were ceremoniously ‘laid to rest' at a closing Mass. This was an historic occasion and marked the amalgamation of the two schools. In 1985, at the Commencement Mass for the new school year, the current College Banner was brought in procession for the very first time. Currently, the College has a student population of 1,300 students and 160 Members of Staff. It is well known for its strong Religious Ethos, Academic Excellence, Cultural Achievement and Sporting Honours.
MOTTO
The motto, In Word and Deed, is Biblically based. In the New Testament 1 John 3:18 emphasises, "Little children, let us love one another, not in word or speech, but in truth and action". As Christians, we are constantly challenged to show our love for one another in visible ways; an ideal that has always been part of our tradition and continues to be expressed in the life and mission of the College today.
THE COLLEGE BANNER AND BADGE
The banner and badge were designed by a professional artist. The triangle is an age old symbol of the Blessed Trinity - God the Father, Son and Holy Spirit. It also reminds us of the importance of relationships and community. The Cross stands as a reminder to all of the Christian nature of our College and is the symbol of the Life, Death and Resurrection of Jesus. It represents Gospel values and is a sign of our Christian commitment.
THE COLLEGE COLOURS
The colours of blue and gold were chosen by the students to preserve the Marist tradition and are symbolic of fullness of life.
Gold is the metal that lasts and never tarnishes. It is used as a symbol for God and also for love. Gold stands for integrity, commitment and strength. Blue is the colour of the sky and suggests heights to be attained and mysteries beyond our imagination. Blue is also associated with Mary, the Mother of God, who holds a special place in the traditions of the College. Both the Marist Brothers and the Presentation Sisters take Mary as a model of faith and commitment.
Trinity Catholic College Council
Trinity Catholic College Lismore Ltd is a public Company incorporated to run Trinity Catholic College. The Company is owned by the Members of the Company: the Marist Brothers, the Presentation Sisters and St Carthage's Parish. The College Council is appointed by the Members and is accountable for the governance of the College.
